The MIGRANTS Master in Migration Studies: interview to the scientific coordinator, Prof. Samira Mechri

Samira Mechri, scientific coordinator of the MIGRANTS Master was interviewed by RTCI – Radio Tunis Chaîne Internationale, generalist public radio station in Tunisia.

Prof. Mechri explains how the project arises, from the steady collaborations with the other partners and previous project experiences, until the implementation of the first edition of the Master’s Degree in Migration Studies.

The Joint Master Degree in “Migration Studies: Governance, Policies and Cultures” is an interdisciplinary two years programme which provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges represented by international migration.

Interdisciplinary is a cornerstone of the MA and reflects the complexity of migration-related issues and the variety of expertise it implies. The MA maquette includes law, economics, political sciences, sociology, anthropology, psychology, among others. The diversity of actors which made up the partnership is pivotal, from universities to NGOs, to deliver a comprehensive education and to better prepare young people for the job market.

This is a Joint Degree between the three Tunisian Partner Universities (Tunis El Manar University, El Manouba University, Tunis University) fully taught in English.

As Prof. Mechri states, quality is the priority. Professors come from a number of universities beyond the partnership and especially from different disciplines. This ensures an excellent preparation for the MIGRANTS students offered by the relevant experts of the field.

15 students have already studied in the first year of the Master course with a success rate of 90%. Some of them are international students, since the MIGRANTS Master is open to students coming from all over the world and look forward to welcoming as many nationalities as possible.

Prof. Mechri details the terms of the application, deadlines, requirements and the application process for all those interested. The application closed on July 7th and the Master is about to start its next academic year.

Prof. Mechri underlines the internationalisation opportunities offered by the Master, and in particular the opportunity for a Double Diploma, which gives the opportunity to pursue studies abroad.
